Canal Farm Fishing Lake

Opening in 2007

fishing The fishing lake is an exciting new development at Canal Farm, and was excavated in 2006. The banks of the lake are now getting well established with grasses and wild flowers. Richard and Mary-Anne have planted hundreds of trees and hedging plants around the lake, and despite the dry summer last year, they are beginning to develop well. The lake has been stocked with many fish including common, crutian and mirror carp, bream, roach, rudd, barbel and tench. Guests staying at Canal Farm can take advantage of the fishing facilities free of charge.

The lake is also proving to be a draw for wildlife, with many visiting waterfowl – and it is fascinating watching the natural colonisation of the banks of the lake by aquatic plants naturally occurring in this marshy area. Even if you do not fish, you can enjoy a stroll around the lake – especially lovely in the early evening when the fish can be seen rising.

Mr Dean fishing May 2007 Mr Dean stayed at Canal Farm in May 2007, and enjoyed the fishing. He is pictured here with a carp caught in the lake.
